petit monsieur

September 18, 2010

A few people have asked me recently for an update on Shepherd, and it was only then that I realized we’ve been home with him for almost three weeks.  Time really does fly when your days blur together with your nights.  🙂

Shepherd is a wonderful, happy, healthy little man.  He’s pooping with no big fuss, and eating like a champ.  And most of the time, he’ll stay asleep for the 3 hours in between his feedings at night.  He went back to the doctor on wednesday of this week and weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces! and he was 19 inches long, that’s a whole pound and an inch in two weeks.  We were very excited parents. He loves being home and we love having him home.

Shepherd does go out with us. He’s been to the grocery store, he’s been to the park, to the blue goose, and to the square on a Saturday morning.   Our doctor does remind us that he’s vulnerable to getting sick, but that the best thing for him is for us to be smart about when and where he take him places. He won’t be around very many people during cold and flu season, but for now we love going on walks and introducing him to the big wide world.  Friends have even come over to meet him, and he loves being held by everyone.

People have been so generous in bringing us food and caring for us since he’s been home.  An elder from our church even came and mowed our grass(and we go to a big church).  I’m back at work and leslie is still on maternity leave, which is great but she is getting pretty restless.  We’ve been watching the show Pushing Daisies on Netflix and it’s got her back in pie baking mode.  She’s entering the State Fair of Texas pie contest at the end of the month.  but I’ll let her write her own update on all of that.

But this week was also our anniversary.  We’ve been married for 1097 days and so we celebrated being in love with each other by going to fort worth for dinner and dessert.  My parents came up from Keller and were delighted to get to hold him for an entire evening.  It was wonderfully great.

God put us in a place where we had to cry out to Him and trust that He was in control, and right now He is putting us in a place that’s causing us to cry out to Him in gladness for how good He is to us.  It’s the gentle morning light after the night, and it’s all the more sweeter because the night was long.

I’m very excited about this weekend. Why? because I get to teach my first membership class on Sunday and I kind of geek out about stuff like that.  It’s why I do the job I do, and speaking of jobs…. I have an interview on Wednesday for an opportunity to do more of what I love doing.  So you can pray with us that it goes well.

I’ll leave you with a video of Shepherd, but you can see lots of photos by going here.

In my experience, there has been a lot of that going on that street…

We still adore you both, and continue to pray for you three as God provides, deepens, and continues to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to him.

I know Shep’s parents, can predict his upbringing and therefor know that we will be friends in eternity, but nonetheless, once the little fighter has filled out to his weight class, look forward to saying “goochie-goo”(sic?) appropriately.
